It is disturbing to learn this sad news. I know him for his thought provoking analytical writings on matters of energy & environment. He was indeed a great champion of sustainable development. May his soul rest in peace.

It is terribly sad to hear this news. A dynamic personality who really championed and spoke on critical energy issues.

This is very shocking for all of us. We have lost a great thinker as well as civil society actor. He would always be remembered for the great contribution made in research and advocacy on energy and environmental issues. He was a renowned scholar and his contribution was well appreciated in the international community. However, he was equally sensitive towards the grassroots issues and concerns. He was very responsive. God may bless peace to the departed soul and strength to his family members to bear the loss.

Girish came to Islamabad, Pakistan in 2003 to attend the SDPI seminar on electricity pricing. We both delivered talks. His talk was most impressive and so was his demeanor and intellect. On a short visit of a day, Girish wanted to see the city. I took him out, a cold day and we went to the local market where Girish bought souvenirs, as far as I remember shawls for his mother and sister. Recently while writing a proposal, I used the example of Prayas and explained the fervor of Girish in taking up complex issues, humanizing them and then debating them with passion and fervor. Today I googled Girish to look at this latest research and what a shock I got to see his obituary. I met him for a day nearly 9 years ago, but he changed the way I look at things. What a loss? The world is poorer in losing Girish. My deepest condolences to his family and Prayas.

Girish and I worked together on the social and environmental impacts of global power sector reforms. He brought an engineer's clarity of vision to bear on the murky politics of the privatization of the energy sector with such integrity and strength of purpose that he became an inspiration. Condolences to Girish's family and to friends at Prayas.

Girish’s sad demise of deeply saddened me. A wonderful human being with clear vision, original understanding of the issues, open to ideas, suggestions and a true Karmyogi in real sense. I have fond memories of my interactions with Girish. May God give strength to his family to bear the loss.
