This news came as an absolute shock and is still hard to believe! Girish's presence will be sorely missed in the energy advocacy space. He was a gentle and firm person with whom it was always possible to discuss ideas and issues. We will miss him very much!

Girish we will cherish your smile, your humaneness, your integrity, your dedication to India, to addressing the global clean energy challenge, and most importantly your commitment to the poor.
I had heard so much about you before I met you in Mumbai. I was surprised to find in you a gentle, committed soul, with a lot of humility.
We will miss you; we will rededicate our efforts to the cause we shared.

A loss to the world, and not only India. Girish was the best thinker about the interface of human development and climate change. The combination of his relentless commitment to the poor (his source of light) and his wisdom in questioning power structures, shaping the debate (his outpouring of enlightment) made him unique. I will remember Girish as a tiger: gentle in his manners, with soft paws, but absolutely sure and confident about using it when needed, in the defense of the public good. Girish's short life was lived in full and to the greatest impact. Lucky parents, lucky friends and colleagues you had, Girish, who could enjoy from closer-by your wit, your gently smile, your caring, and your wisdom. How blessed I feel to have been granted to know you. Your banner has been set high, Girish. You have indicated the way and you have inspired all of us. May the strength of the number of your followers compensate for your steps and strides of a giant.

Girish was a greatly valued collaborator for Shakti Foundation and a valued member of our Lowcarbon group. He was the very embodiment of the concerns or the poor, the far sighted intelligence that must guide our thinking and the commitment to sustainability that energy policy requires. His gentle manner even when he was expressing firm opinions, his willingness to listen and his simplicity of demeanour ensured that he and us colleagues in Prayas always had an attentive audience for their excellent work. All of us who work in this area mourn this untimely loss and wish his family and colleagues in Prayas strength to cope with this tragedy.

Girish, your departure is as much a personal bereavement for all of us in the field as it is for the energy profession. I salute you, for your commitment, passion, unwavering focus, dedication to the public cause and your unassuming manner that belied the steely interior. Was privileged to know you Girish. I share the grief of family, friends and colleagues at Prayas and the profession at large.

An exceptional human being with exceptional qualities, Girish's sudden demise is a loss as much to the energy profession as it is a personal bereavement for all of us who had the privilege of knowing him. Girish, I salute you - for your commitment, your devotion to your work, your unwavering focus, your mild manner that belied the steely personality behind. The sector will never be the same without you.

Shocking and Incredible! I have had only a few interactions with him but cherish those for the humility, appreciation and passion with which he engaged on each occassion on real issues facing the sector.
We have lost one of the few sentinels of the sector in the country. Here's hoping that Prayas carries on his battle with renewed vigour as a just tribute to a fighter. Heartfelt condolences and prayers for his family!!
