The first time I met Girish was in 1998 and since then we were very irregularly in touch. Years could passed without meeting each other, but somehow Girish was always there. Every interaction with him revived in me a deep personal humbleness and a great respect for his absolutely unconventional yet incorruptible and deep and robust analyses, his quick wit and great humour. May this continue to guide Prayas in its quest for a more equitable future.
Knowing Girish was a privilege. His knowledge, clarity of thought, dedication and his unassuming manner was all inspirational. It was indeed sudden and shocking to lose someone like him so early. Sincere condolences to his family and colleagues at Prayas. Along with them we will miss him.
I am quite distressed to hear this news. I have interacted with him and learnt from his commitment and passion. We will miss his alternative perspectives and debates on Indian power sector. Our condolences are to his family and colleagues in Prayas.
The sudden demise of Girish Sant is a setback to the cause that he so valiantly espoused with sincerity and dedication - the cause of good governance, transparency and efficient functioning of the energy sector in India , specifically the power sector. Through his insightful analysis, gentle advocacy and brilliant articulation, Girish was an institution. His premature death will be mourned by all those of us who knew and admired him. May his soul rest in peace.
Cannot imagine PRAYAS without Girish. He was such an integral part of the processes at PRAYAS. It was always wonderful associating with him and more importantly with his thought process on matters pertaining to energy. Am sure that memories of Girish's work and his never-give-up attitude will continue to power PRAYAS in its energetic journey.
It was most shocking to learn about this most untimely, benumbing, disturbing news on Feb 3 from a friend when I was away in villages in Rajasthan. He was so healthy, and having seen no signs of his heart problem in numerous interactions that we had, I could not believe this for long.
Having known Girish since the IIT days in early 1980s, with increasing closeness in recent years, I have found him to be most remarkably unassuming, and yet come knowledgeable, committed, efficient and humane person on the power sector issues of India. I can only imagine the loss that those close to him would suffer by this most sad event, and hope that Prayas will continue to work in manner that he would have liked it to.
I was deeply shocked to learn of Girish's untimely passing. I will miss the quiet passion, drive and genuine curiosity with which he went about trying to shape an inclusive and sustainable path for India's development. I am privileged to have known Girish. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at Prayas.
We have lost a clear headed person with equally clear conscience- a rare combination. His inputs to energy policy were most valuable. We hope Prayas will follow his legacy with greater vigour. Jyoti Parikh
It was a truly saddening to hear about this. I personally always counted him amongst the handful of truly dedicated civil society activists on energy issues in India. His was truly a gentle giant amongst us. And will forever be remembered for his selfless hard work that touched and influenced mine and I am sure many people's professional lives. My condolences to his family and colleagues.
