The word ‘Prayas’ means ‘focused effort’. Prayas is a non-profit Trust, based in Pune, India. We are a research group working on policy analysis and advocacy that promotes the public interest.

The focus of Prayas Energy Group (PEG) is the protection of the public interest in the Electricity Sector. Public interest issues include consumer issues as well broad social issues. In consumer issues, PEG gives more attention to the issues affecting the poor: small electricity consumers and those who do not have access to electricity now but are likely to be consumers in the near future. Social issues include environmental sustainability and equity.

PEG has been active since 1990. Our outputs include interventions, publications and training. Interventions are in processes that involve the Electricity Regulatory Commissions, Government etc. Our publications include books, reports, research papers, popular articles etc. Training programs conducted by Prayas are geared towards building capabilities of civil society.

PEG’s dream is to see that ‘energy becomes a development tool’. Our activities are supported through project-based grants from charitable foundations from India and abroad.
